Pat
Patterson of Kemah put his chips on Kamen’s Segway, retiring
from his job to launch Lean & Glide Segway Tours. Putting
so much capital into their fleet of cruising curiosities was a
major risk - but it has paid off for them.
“You see things when you’re riding a Segway that you
don’t see when you’re driving by the seawall,”
his wife, Lia, said. “It’s fast, easy, fun and it
only takes about 10 minutes to get used to it. People love them
and business is great.” The Patterson’s said that
the Segway was popular among tourists (and locals, alike) who
quickly learned to maneuver the machines with simple movements.
”You lean into it like you’re skiing. There’s
no accelerator and no brake, just lean onto your toes or heels
to go forward or back,” she explained. |
